⭐️Setting Goals for 2022 - Mindfully⭐️

Wow, can you believe that 2022 is just around the corner?

It's been a long and short year all at the same time (How that's possible, I don't know!).

Nonetheless, we are approaching the time of year where we begin to look forward towards the future and set the goals that we want to achieve in our businesses in the next year.

Why is it important to set goals?!

Goals help to guide us towards our destination

and monitor our progress along the way.

It's pretty easy to quickly write out a list of goals that we want to achieve, but how do we do it mindfully and with intention?

A couple of months ago I came across a forgotten notebook while I was moving my office.

On the front page I discovered, neatly scrawled, my business goals for 2021.

I felt completely disconnected from them as I read the list, almost as if someone else had written them.

Some of them, I had achieved.

Others I had ZERO interest in pursuing anymore...

On reflection, it taught me a few things -

⭐️We change and grow as people all the time which means that our goals might too;

⭐️Unforeseen opportunities might come along that might change the goals you have set yourself;

⭐️Our experiences sometimes change our priorities;

⭐️We should never set goals with other peoples idea of success in mind;

⭐️Sometimes you might just have to wing it.

After finding that list of goals, I realised that while I had taken the time to write out a list of goals to achieve in 2021, I hadn't done it mindfully.

I was taking other peoples versions of success into account.

I was looking at what other people in my industry were doing and jotting down their accomplishments as goals for myself.

I had forgotten what success means to me and more importantly, I didn't set those goals with my 'WHY' in mind.

Why am I telling you this?

⭐️Because sometimes we set our goals with someone else's definition of success in mind.

⭐️Because if we don't keep our 'WHY' in mind, we may end up setting goals that we didn't even want in the first place.

⭐️Because sometimes our goals might reflect 'What we are expected to achieve'.

⭐️Because IT'S OKAY for your visions and goals to change, no matter what others might say.

⭐️Because if we don't set our goals mindfully, we'll end up with a list of things that we don't really want to do and ultimately, won't help us to achieve what we really want.

So how can you set goals mindfully and with intention?

By going back to basics!

1. Remind yourself of your 'WHY'

Why are you running your own business in the first place?!

We all have a 'WHY'. Remind yourself of yours while setting goals.

2. Ask Yourself What YOUR Version Of Success Looks Like

Yours and nobody else's!

Everybody's vision of success is different from early retirement lying on the beach to having more time to spend with your family during the week.

Whatever it is, keep that in mind when setting your goals.

3. Look At The Ultimate Vision You Have In Mind

Where do you see yourself in 2/3/5 years time?

How can you break that down into smaller and more manageable chunks?

Your ultimate vision may feel too big to be achievable, breaking it down into smaller chunks is the key to getting there!

4. Allow Wiggle Room For Change

You never know what opportunities might come your way or what experiences might change your ultimate vision, so it's best not to be too rigid about the goals you set yourself.

If another opportunity you want to pursue comes along, allow yourself to review your goals and change them!

Reviewing your goals quarterly or even monthly can help you stay on track with what it is that you really want.
